The Union is a family owned, casual restaurant in downtown McLean. Our mission is to invite you into a warm, familiar neighborhood space where you can enjoy food inspired from the world around us. Food and drinks made with fresh, wholesome ingredients to share with you; our neighbors, friends and family.

The Union represents a coming together of different food ideas that Chef/Owner Sastry has collected from his extensive travels around the world and from working in several well-known establishments here in these United States and in India.

Chef / Owner

Giridhar Sastry was born in Calcutta, India and immigrated to the US to study at a Culinary school in Connecticut in 2000.  He knew he wanted to create food since he was a little kid, often helping his mom in the kitchen and learning the basics of Indian cuisine.  As he grew up and finished hospitality school in India, he worked for some of the largest names including Ambassador Sky-chefs where he mastered the foundation of classical European cuisine. From there he moved onto the US and worked in leadership roles at well-known brands including, The Ritz-Carlton and Passion Foods in Washington D.C. where he developed his love for creating food that combines flavors and ingredients from around the world.

Before opening The Union, Sastry was the Executive Chef and F&B Director at The Mayflower Hotel by Marriott in Washington D.C. for over 9 years.

Sastry lives in Fairfax with this wife and 3 kids (6 year old daughter and 2 year old twin boys). He loves to travel, create new food concepts and cook for his friends and family.
